Building positive and respectful relationships
Students feel safe in a community where all members are active participants in building a welcoming school culture that values diversity.
Schools can help everyone to feel a sense of belonging and connectedness by recognising and responding to the needs of specific groups in the school community.
Diversity exists in various ways including race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religious belief, ability and political allegiance.
We can all learn from one another and the first step is understanding and respecting diversity.
The Australian Student Wellbeing Framework is informed by relevant national, state and territory frameworks and initiatives. Find your state or territory framework, other national initiatives and browse international approaches to student wellbeing.

Supporting respectful relationships education
Respectful Relationships Education is the Australian Government’s program to support respectful relationships education in all Australian schools. Respectful relationships education is a primary prevention initiative to influence behaviour change. Its ultimate goal is to prevent domestic and family violence and promote positive attitudes, behaviours and equality within school communities.
Respectful relationships education focuses on teaching students how to form safe, positive and respectful relationships across a wide range of social situations.
Schools have always had a role in socialising our young people, and social and emotional learning is a core component of the Australian Curriculum.
Research has demonstrated that social problems of disrespect, violence and abuse can be significantly reduced by teaching and modelling relationship skills throughout foundation, primary and high school.

Every child should be able to access and participate in their schooling. A disability should not be barrier to those rights.
The Disability Standards for Education 2005 (also known as ‘the Standards’) aim to ensure that every child with disability gets the same opportunities at school as other students. The Standards help ensure support for students with disability, including students on the autism spectrum, so that they can participate in education on the same basis as their peers.
All schools must follow the Standards, as well as the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA).

1. Find a clear space of wall to lean against.
2. Press your back against the wall and slide down the wall and bend your knees. Your knees should be at a 90-degree angle. This position is called a squat.
3. Hold this position for 30 seconds.
Where did you feel it in your body when you were in the squat position?
4. Repeat the activity, but this time focus on your thigh muscles.
How did your thigh muscles feel while holding that stretch?
